JambleD&T + Trainee

Mentors

Mentor Folder -
Year calendar -
Keep a record of the calendar for the PGCE course, this will let you know when trainees are in school or university. Also keep a record of the planned Professional Studies calendar for the lessons they will have each week.
Mentor training sessions -
University based training records, new mentor training days and faculty based days.
Mentor meeting minutes - Hold a mentor meeting each week and identify what targets are needed for the following week, these may be related to teaching standards or subject knowledge audit. Next, set aside some time and a training activity to make reaching these targets possible. Not all training needs to be completed by the mentor, in fact I would recommend that you identify the strongest or most experienced member of your team to deliver the sessions. During your meeting, the trainee has the opportunity to discusses any of the needs or concerns as well as show how the teaching file, lesson planning and evaluations are going.
Subject Knowledge and skills audit - Trainees will often use the DATA Core competencies document in order to self assess their knowledge and ability within D&T. This can be used to set training activities and targets during each placement.
Application forms & references - When a trainee is first placed with you, the University will often send through their PGCE application form for your records. It is useful to read this document and get an insight into the trainee's previous schooling and experiences. Their letter of application can be used to gain an insight into their reasons for coming into the profession and their hobbies outside of teaching . I also keep reference requests here as when aksed for, it is useful to have their letter of application to refer back to.
PP1 & 2 Target setting -
PP1 & 2 Reports -
Trainee timetable -
Observation records -
Keep a record of any observation by staff on the trainee, these are useful to refer back to in your mentor meetings. Also keep any principles  and examples of written and oral feedback here.
